REPLACEMENT CLOCK MECHANISM
Please unscrew the small nut on the center shaft which will free the minute hand. Set that aside so it is not damaged. The hour hand is press-fitted to the shaft, so with gentle, even pressure at the base of the hand, pull up to remove it without damage. Now simply reverse the process.
- The hour hand is pressed onto the white shaft; take care to press it evenly around the shaft and all the way down to the brass fitting.
- The minute hand then fits on top of the shaft, be sure to align the shaped opening on the hand to the flat sides on the shaft so that it rotates properly with the movement of the mechanism.
- Also, if necessary, please apply even pressure to give space between the hands so they do not get hung up on one another.
- Lastly, when replacing the brass nut, do not over tighten. The correct amount of pressure should just keep the mechanism in place. Most problems with the clock not keeping time are related to this. Please replace the nut by hand, taking care not to cross-thread it; it has very fine threads. The knurled nut should tighten the minute hand to the shaft. If the minute hand is still loose, the knurled nut is cross-threaded. No problem, just take it off and retry. Once you get the nut threaded so that it holds the minute hand securely, continue to tighten until it is just snug. If it is too tight, it will prohibit the hand from moving.
